PVE delivers yet another crane to the Chernobyl Arch Construction

PVE has delivered a fourth crane to the Chernobyl construction project “Novarka” meaning New Arch. PVE A 300 ton capacity Manitowoc 2250 has been delivered and erected for immediate use. The Ukrainian government appointed an international consortium called Novarka, to cap the whole Chernobyl plant with a massive arch-like structure that will be assembled alongside the plant and slid over the turbine hall to seal it off. The 108-metre high arch, equivalent in height to a 30-storey building, will be 162 metres in length with a 257-metre span. It will weigh 30,000 tonnes, including a 23,000-tonne metal frame, and is designed to last 100 years, requiring up to 1,000 people for construction. The main objectives of the containment shelter are to confine radioactive matter, protect workers on the site, protect from weather damage the existing sarcophagus and allow deconstruction of Unit 4 of the Chernobyl power plant to begin.
